How To Get Rid Of Generational Curses

When you look at pictures of your family, you can see yourself.
You got your nose from Grandpa Joe. Your eyes look like your mother's. You do that like Uncle Bob. All the guys in the family do that thing. But the shape of your nose is not the only thing you inherited.
Along with family blessing, you also inherited your family's curses.
Your inheritance from God is blessing. Anything less is not God's will for you or your family.
A curse's purpose is to steal your blessing and destroy every good thing God has given you.
When you remove the curse, God's unlimited blessing can saturate every part of your life.
What is a curse?
A curse is the fruit of unrepentant sin.
For a list of curses, read Deuteronomy 28:15 - 30. If you see any of these traits in you and your family, you see a generational curse in action.
A generational curse is sin embedded into your family's mindset, culture, and habit. This sin is passed down from generation to generation.
The greatest battle is to identify it. That's because it's hidden in plain sight. That family "thing" became normal to you. It often lies dormant until you begin to rise up in your call.
The enemy will try to hold you back from growth through generational curses. If that happens, it's an ace card in your hand. The enemy exposed his attack.
When you can identify a generational curse, you can get rid of it.
How to get rid of a generational curse
Step 1: Take ownership of the curse.
As long as you blame your disfavor or sickness on Auntie Jane, you give the power to change to the enemy.
There was a point when you took the curse on as your own. Take responsibility for your sin. Apply James 4:7 immediately to your situation, "Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
The sin may not have started with you, but it's now yours.
Pray, "Lord, I have sinned against you. I need your help. This generational curse stops with me."
The power to change is now in your hands.
Step 2: Apply the Blood.
When you claim the sin as your own, you can apply the blood to that sin.
You can pray:
"Father, I repent for my sin. When I experienced destruction and theft in my life, I blamed you. I saw how others were getting blessed and not me and got bitter. I thought you were punishing me. But I see that was my sin. I didn't trust you. I didn't walk in faith. Forgive me for getting angry and bitter toward you. By doing that, I made this curse my own."
When you repent, you put your sin under the blood of Jesus. You are washed clean. But you also need to close the door to the enemy. Take away his license to attack you.
Next, pray:
"Satan, my sin is under the blood. You have no hold over me any longer. I take away your license in my life. I close that open door to theft and destruction in my life. I don't accept this curse anymore. Get out of my life, in Jesus' name."
Step 3: Renew your mind.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2
You kicked the devil out and took away his license in your life. You need to renew your mind and change your habits to keep him out. If you're used to being the tail and not the head, it will take a while to get used to walking in the victory that is yours.
Read the Word. When you are tempted to think poverty, theft, or sickness is a part of you, STOP! Rebuke the thought.
Take that thought captive. Take the Word and counteract those thoughts with the truth.
It'll be a challenge to change. But God made you a warrior. Pick up your sword and use it against the enemy daily. As you do, your faith will grow exponentially.
Change will be a fortress you'll build brick by brick. So be diligent. Be patient. Build your stronghold of faith every single day.
Eliminate every generational curse you see with these 3 steps. Break every chain that holds your family captive. Build a mindset of victory and walk in the abundance that's your portion from the Lord. You'll pass down an inheritance of blessing to all generations that come after.
